Dr. Leslie Merriman
Dr. Merriman is a licensed psychologist. She earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University, and an additional M.S. in Developmental and Evolutionary Psychology from the University of New Mexico. She has enjoyed being involved in the field of psychology in various capacities for over 12 years.
During graduate school, Dr. Merriman studied compassion and mindfulness-based approaches to therapy, and researched connections between physical and psychological health. She enjoyed applying this knowledge while helping to develop an Integrated Health Psychology Clinic at CSU. There her duties included leading an experiential social skills training and wellness group, as well as performing neuropsychological assessment of young children and adolescents.
Dr. Merriman then completed pre and post-doctoral work within the New Mexico VA Health Care System, where she provided clinical services across settings (outpatient, residential, inpatient, and neuropsychology clinic) and through the Indian Health Services. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, she was involved in program evaluation and development, and helped to adapt evidence-based therapies for patients with mental illness.
Dr. Merriman grew up in interior Alaska and worked in the arts before embarking on a winding path to become a psychologist. She feels passionately about helping people find creative ways of tapping their inner resources, especially when the environment feels limiting or uncertain.
